Green Space
2005 - 2006, photographsThe more time I have spent in urban park land, the more the space seems to mean. It has functional, cultural and monetary value. The series Green Space is a meditative look at the ground in urban parks. It is made up of 6 triptychs, a structured approach to presenting multiple perspectives of this land.
Half of the series was shot in Toronto's Trinity Bellwoods Park, the other half in Yoyogi Park, Tokyo. These two landscapes look quite different in the photographs, but the the ubiquity of green space and their purpose in modern urban environments is emphasised.
Occasionally depicted are examples of the land in use by urban dwellers, tucked away in a corner of the frame but bringing the photos back from abstraction. The frames within each triptych are presented from slightly different perspectives, creating slight conflict between each landscape and further emphasising the land itself.
