flux
2001, videoOld mediums are processed. Experimental filmmakers treated 16mm film in the tactile sense to give it new qualities. Video, and consequently digital video editing, has allowed the cinematic experience to take on new qualities.
The 1st segment of Flux starts off with a video representation of regular speed 16mm film. Through the next four segments, the image is treated in traditional ways (film painting, scratching), and it's tempo is greatly reduced- represented on video and merged with new sound.
The sound is obviously digitally fabricated, and imitates a projector in the 1st segment- by the end of the 5th segment the sound is almost too harsh- completing the processing of the beautiful fluid imagery.
